Victorian Police Chief Ken Lay’s crusade against the beard looks one step
closer to coming into fruition. His blatant and outright discriminatory wish to
see beards (and less importantly tattoos and moustaches) banned for all officers
in the Victorian Police Force has received backing from members of the
almost-entirely beardless State Government. The one MP brave enough to have a
beard, Gavin Jennings, has shown that that’s where his bravery ends, and is
towing the line.
We the bearded publicly condemn Ken Lay and ask that he stand down immediately
from his position as Victorian Police Chief Commissioner. It is our view that
Mr Lay would be better fitted to front a Victorian-era Police Force rather than
being in charge of policing a democratic state In Australia in the year of 2012.
We encourage all members of the Victorian Police Force, and also people
everywhere, to grow beards in protest. We see what Ken Lay is trying to do and
we will not be held down. He may not be able to grow a beard, but we can.

It’s straight up discrimination, but too many people think that beard discrimination is some kind of laughing matter and not worthy of genuine concern. People think I’m joking about being offended by this.
Ken Lay says this is about trust. Apparently the public don’t trust bearded men. What happened to “don’t judge a book by its cover”? Imagine if Mr Lay was trying to ban dark skinned police officers based on a claim that the public doesn’t trust dark skinned people… he would be sacked immediately for making grossly inappropriate comments. Seriously, how is this any different?
I concur! I am outraged.
Ken Lay has two Mums, two beardless Mums!
Beards say AUTHORITY, so a police force without beards is one without authority! BEARDS!!
Ken Lay IS a bearded mum.
I wrote some lines on the subject on my hunting blogg. It´s in swedish but if I say that “Sicket snicke-snack” means something like “Pure bull-shit” you´ll get my point…..

Unbeardlievable..
Ahh Ken Lay, you beardless freak!
As a tattood and bearded woman (PCOS, I pluck so you fellas don’t get Jealous!) I take great offense at your comments!
The reason the public don’t trust the police is because so many of them are corrupt and are unwilling to do thier job properly!
With the police force you want at least a cop the public can feel they are able to approach and relate to as they have a common facto (tattoos, beard, tash, piercings, nails).
Ken Lay obviously has too much time on his hands, could it be because he likes to drive that bit faster than the speed limit allows and therefore has more time to spare?
good fodder 4 another track men, Cop that on ya face!,keep it long, keep it strong
As my lovely wife said last night, lets bombard their email with glorious pics of men with beards.

The Victorian Police were started by Bearded MEN. You don’t take down a master beard like Ned Kelly cleanly shaved.
This is an untter betrayal of their heritage, the cops no longer exist in my mind.
Beards = blokes beardless = police says something not sure what but!!!
He’s just encouraging the stereotype he’s trying to basically remove from the equation. Instead they should grow beards and show how competent they are and people’s odd belief or at least his that officers are less trustworthy will go away on its own.
If I could grow a beard, I would. There is nothing untrustworthy about a beard. Maybe the person behind the beard is untrustworthy, but the beard does not make them so!
What a fool I’ve been… corruption, nitpicking on trivial matters and double standards seem all so minor when compared to a man having a beard… Ken Lay, you are a tosser and your lack of facial hair proves it to the world!
I would have thought police command would have been all in favour of beards. I mean, they could shave them off after assaulting members of the public such as protestors or Aborigines and thus hide their true identity.
Strange that police in every other state and territory (and even the feds) can have beards. Looks like all the police forces in Australia are untrustworthy, No wonder it’s called Victorian police
I am happy that I live in South Australia where “SA Police spokesman said officers were permitted to have a beard as long as it was a full beard and neatly kept.”

I had a beard for 12 years until I started work for Echo Entertainment (TabCorp) owners of Star Casino, Jupiters Gild Coast Casino, Jupiters Townsville Casino and Treasury Casino. They have a no beard policy which I believe is discrimination as well.
Don’t make everyone have a beard. Then you won’t be able to tell the muslims from the humans. That gives them an advantage eh?
